ABOUT US:
The Institute for the Development of Education in the Arts (IDEA) was founded in 1996 to serve as a healing presence in the lives of the City’s adolescents, 46 percent of whom live in poverty. IDEA is a creative learning organization that exists to create better futures for youth in Camden and throughout Southern New Jersey, by tapping into their creative spirit in order to inspire and give power to their dreams and aspirations through arts education.
OUR MISSION:
To provide a safe and supportive artistic environment that enhances and respects the diversity of all cultures and inspires excellence by offering opportunities to under served youth and their families throughout the Delaware Valley to (claim their voice) as they explore and participate in the performing, literary and multimedia arts.
OUR VISION:
The IDEA Performing Arts Center serves as a subsidiary and home base for all activities created by IDEA and will serve as a cultural gathering place on the historic Camden Waterfront to celebrate the arts in all of its forms. We hope that the IDEA Performing Arts Center will serve as an exhibition, arts education and performance space where talented and diverse artists can inspire, strengthen, support, unite and enlighten the community through their performances and exhibitions and serve as a home for many emerging, established as well as struggling artist in Camden and throughout the region.

The IDEA Performing Arts Center will:
- Offer arts/cultural alternatives to youth as a deterrent to risky behavior.
- Expand alternatives for youth job opportunities in existing and created internships.
- Create a commercial outlet for performing arts for youth entrepreneurs and artists.
- Provide mentoring and arts apprenticeships utilizing and focusing on the Arts and Technology to enhance job readiness, marketing skills and group team building.
- Expand awareness of and continues the rich legacy of jazz music with a particular emphasis on combining the academic and the artistic through programming combining music and math.
The IDEA Performing Arts Center will provide year-round programming of artistic excellence that:
- Presents the performing arts of music, dance, and theater.
- Presents the visual arts of painting, and drawing.
- Presents the literary arts of Poetry, Spoken Word.
- Features the media arts of Film, Sound Engineering, Music Production, Graphic Design, Editing and Script Writing.
- Features Master classes, lectures, demonstrations, mentoring programs, and other participatory events.
- Becomes a home for emerging and established local artists and performers.
- Serves as an advocate in the community for the arts as part of a holistic life experience.
